Mercury, Mayhem, Metaphors and Meditation

While Rose led our first meditation exercise in circle time today, Austin could not contain himself in the face of cooler temperatures.   As we ummed and ooohhhed our way to a state of tranquillity, Austin frantically whispers to Monty wanting to know how he spontaneously grew a winter coat in July.  Misunderstanding the intent of Austin's question, Monty strongly advises against a winter coat in July as it was very uncomfortable.  Austin's whispers increase in intensity and volume as he attempts to clarify the question for Monty who has just achieved ultimate tranquillity and is merrily snoring on the deck.  Rose, our meditation leader, feels Austin's whispers are impairing her ability to reach true relaxation, and she begins flexing her muscles in preparation to slap Austin into tranquillity.  In an attempt to divert violence during our meditation session, I tell Austin to just relax and think comforting thoughts.  Wiggle your toes I tell him, shake out your paws, take long deep breathes and forget about your worries. I quietly assure Austin that a watched pot of water takes longer to boil.  Bursting out of his reverie, Austin demands to know what in the hell boiling water has to do with growing a winter coat resulting in Rose stalking off in disgust.  Startled awake Daisy is delighted to discover the group has completed its first meditation session without anyone being slapped or bitten.
