The Princess Sweater

Once upon a time in a kingdom far far away, a fairy godcousin heard that a princess would soon be born. Wanting to make something very special for the princess, the fairy godcousin hunted the whole land over for the finest of the fine yarns. She searched and searched rejecting yarn after yarn. Too thin! Too thick! Too bright! Too dull! Her frustration grew and she despaired that she would ever find a yarn fine enough for the princess. Finally in the farthest reaches of the kingdom, in the tiniest of corners, under the largest of shelves, she chanced upon a soft yarn glimmering in the dim light. This yarn was just the right colour. It was just the right texture. It was just the right organic compound with no artificial colours or bleaches. It was just in time. The fairy godcousin started knitting right away.
Everything was going well. Everything was going too well. Just when the fairy godcousin thought she might actually complete her gift in time for the arrival of the princess (for the first time ever!), she was told she had to leave her kingdom and move to another kingdom far far away. The fairy godcousin protected the bits and pieces of the gift that were completed along with the special instructions for the gift. She hid them in a quiet corner in the kingdom so that the evil packers who were moving her to the other kingdom would not find the special gift and its instructions.  Alas, a small piece of yarn gave away the secret location and the packers grabbed what bits and pieces they could and along with the special instructions packed them in different boxes and sent them to furthest reaches of other kingdoms to hide the gift from the fairy godcousin so she could not finish it for the princess.
The fairy godcousin would not be deterred. She wandered the kingdoms searching far and wide for her boxes. Months and months passed as the fairy godcousin gathered her many boxes in her new kingdom. Finally she found all the bits and pieces, and the special instructions. But the packers had cast an evil spell upon the special directions jumbling them all together so they no longer made any sense. Sitting in the forest, the fairy godcousin wept and despaired that her gift for the princess would never be finished. In the soft glittering light of the dawn, the shimmering form of the fairy godmother of knitting gradually took shape.
"Why do you despair?" she asked the fairy godcousin. The fairy godcousin shared her sad tale and the terrible deeds committed by the packers.
Laughing softly on the forest air the fairy godmother said "What need have you for the special directions? It is not like you to follow the directions anyhow. Don't they often overwhelm and confuse you?"
Realizing the fairy godmother of knitting was right, the fairy godcousin leapt to her feet clapping her hands joyfully.
"I shall finish my present to the princess and I shall finish it my way...no matter how many times I have to pull out the magic stitches and try again."
And so it came that after many times of pulling out the magic stitches, the fairy godcousin completed her gift to the princess. It was delivered on flying wings to the Princess' kingdom far, far away where it happily fit the growing princess.
The End
