The Bugs Bunny Road Runner Show

It is sweet summertime on the farm and the kids keep up the running of the hounds.  It is great for them to be outside alot.  We can tell Austin and Daisy are not used to all of the fresh air.  They are enjoying their new found freedom but the kids cannot stand there holding them on a leash forever...There are trees to climb, horses to ride, other dogs to play with and yes a garden to weed.  There was no way we could let these dogs run loose.  We come up with a plan to make long lines for each of them and attach the lines to the trunk of the apple tree.  They would have shade, lots of water and could see us outside at all times.  Well so much for the best laid plans...

When we looked over and saw that Austin had bound Daisy in his line and stretched her out on the ground as though he was waiting for a train to come steaming along just like a Bugs Bunny cartoon, we saw the flaw in our plan.  Mind you Daisy didn't seem to mind.  She just lay there blinking her eyes bound up like a cocoon.  The first time it happened, we thought it was maybe just a one time experience for Daisy..then Austin bound her to the trunk of the apple tree.  And then he bound her to himself and dragged her around with him.

We tried attaching their lines to separate trees but they really did not like this.  Daisy would whimper and look quite distressed.  Apparently she preferred being trussed up like a turkey than being separated from Austin.  I couldn't stand the anticipation of wondering how and when Austin would truss her up again so we came up with another plan.  We would build an outdoor kennel.

The debate began...where, how big, how deep and who was going to dig this thing?  Even though the debate was furious, we did all agree on one point.  This kennel was going to be a perfect use for that pile of gravel that had been left behind by an incompetent contractor.  We all wanted that reminder out of our yard and we could think of no better place for it than supporting the buttocks and by-products from the buttocks of two wonderful hound dogs.
