A Lament
Brave Stuart lost his battle. There were many tears as he was a valiant fighter and we thought he would make it. Harriet most especially is very sad. I tell her that when you open your heart to love any creature large or small, you also open your heart to loss. Despite that you must always be willing to open your heart for that is how you come to know a brave little bunny called Stuart.
We buried Stuart in a beautiful Aspen grove. He was laid to rest with the well deserved pomp and ceremony that is reserved for a brave warrior. A beautiful bouquet of wild flowers and a specially selected stone marks his resting spot. Through the onslaught of mosquitoes, our piper played the lament "I'm Dreaming of Home" from Joyeaux Noel that he plays for all of our loved creatures.
And despite all the tears, I know that the next little creature brought to our doorstep will be gathered up and brought inside with much love and hope for their future.
