Comfort Food

They say you should not comfort yourself with food, I tell my Whole Health Group. Well I don't care what they say, I declare to the group. Nothing says comfort like baked brown beans, a slice of homemade bread and rhubarb pie. Huzzah! responds Daisy.

My fave brown beans recipe!
3 cups dried white navy beans, soaked and simmered until tender (follow package directions)
1 1/2 cups of ketchup
1 1/2 cups of water
1/4 molasses
1/2 cup maple syrup
1 large onion, chopped
1 tablespoon dry mustard
1 tablespoon salt
1 cup brown sugar
6 slices of uncooked salt pork or bacon, diced (or not)

Throw it all in the slow cooker, cover and cook for 8 to 10 hours on low stirring a few times if possible.  Or if you are in a rush put it on high for 5-6 hours.
